Principal dates

1891

The first operating concession for local rail lines in the department of Finistère.

 

1913

The forerunner of road passenger transport, Verney puts into operation its first bus service.

 

1927 -

Société Centrale de Chemins de Fer et d'Entreprises (S.C.F.) is operating 2,000 kilometers of local railways, which is 11% of the total existing in France at the time.

 

1934

Conversion from rail to road and the first buses constructed at the factory in Le Mans (SAMV later CBM).

 

1962

The Verney group is expanding and develops freight and parcel services (lasting until 1983) in parallel with their road passenger transport activities.

 

1976

The passenger transport and travel agency activitiies of Transports Citroën are transferred to the Verney Group with the participation of the Michelin group.

 

1985

Reorganised on its base activity of passenger transport in all its forms the Verney Group establishes a network of travel agencies to support its fleet of touring coaches, and develops a range of world wide products as a tour operator under the name of Tourisme Verney.

 

1991

For the centenary SCF becomes Compagnie Générale des Transports VERNEY" G.T.V.

 

1999

After several years of acquisitions the Verney group continues to grow internally and externally, and prepares its subsidiary companies for new trading conditions which they will face through competitive tendering.

 

2002

The Verney Group is bought by Connex (Vivendi Group).

 

2008

The Prêt-à-Partir group completely takes over Tourisme Verney Distribution and its travel agencies.

 

2012 -

The Association for Safeguarding the Patrimony of Tourisme Verney is founded with the objective of preserving the history of the Verney Group, ten years after its disappearance.

 

2013 – on 24th July the virtual museum of Transports Verney is launched on-line.
